Rethinking Canada 150Canada 150: Views from the Margins is a symposium hosted by the Political Science Graduate Student's Association (PSGSA) at the University of Alberta. At this symposium, we encourage participants to engage critically with the concept of Canada 150 and Canadian national identity.
The symposium encourages critical engagement with the concept of Canada 150 from a variety of perspectives, including those from Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, and Queer critiques. Approaching the 150th anniversary of Canada's confederation, this symposium considers what it means to celebrate the settler-colonial nation on Indigenous land; how Canada retains its identity as a peacekeeper despite increased weapon sales in Saudi Arabia; and whether or not Canada as a nation can ever be truly 'reconciled'. |
The Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta provides an excellent venue for this critical engagement. The Department is home to many groundbreaking critical scholars working in areas such as Indigenous political thought, Critical Race Theory, and intersectional feminist analysis.
